Offroad Duathlon Series
|
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Please be aware that the Offroad Duathlon series has been cancelled for the remainder of this season, due to safety concerns due a lack of marshall volunteers on the course. Thanks to all those who supported the series this season. The CCTRI committee will be reassessing the series and hopefully bringing it back in some form or another next year!
Central Coast Triathlon & Multisport Club Club is pleased to announce that we are launching a new club event on our race calendar for Winter 2010: the Offroad Duathlon at Warnervale - a cross country event that combines bush running with mountain biking.

Established primarily to provide club members with cross training event with a bit of a difference, it is also designed to offer a multisport event that will appeal to cross-country runners and mountain bikers, and introduce them to the wonderful world of multisport events.
The course is divided into two separate and non-overlapping loops - the run loop and the mountain biking loop. Both are relatively flat with only a couple of gentle hills to keep it interesting.
The bike loop is not technical and suitable for most skill levels - although caution should be taken at the notorious Hella McKella Drop-off. It does cover a variety of surfaces including hard dirt, loose rock, sand and mud, and is definitely not suitable for road bikes.
Results
After months of preparation, the first ever CCTRI Offroad Duathlon finally launched with 44 competitors taking to the bush tracks of Federation Park Warnervale. Whilst several regular club-members were in attendance, there were quite a few new faces who had never done a multisport event before but came from a cross country running or mountain biking background.
We started with a slow orientation lap of the bike leg so everyone could get used to where the track went amongst all the trails and tracks of Warnervale, then after this we let the juniors take off for their first run. After they had all returned to transition and had leapt on their bikes (running through the traditional gauntlet of applauding adults) we let the big kids take to the track.
The final washup of results for the innaugural Offroad Duathlon are as follows:

The second Offroad Duathlon hit Warnervale on Sunday 02 May, and 46 racers racked their mountain bikes and got a tad muddy and dusty.
13 of them were kids who took off first, with at least two itching to step up to do B-Grade but sadly unable to do so due to Triathlon Australia age restrictions. Poor Britney Belmar had to deal with a bike that wouldn't hang on to a pedal but managed to finish in a pretty good time.
The big kids took off next and it became apparent that Adrian Smith was doing his damnedest to back up last month's win - even though it meant he would have to keep a better count on the number of laps he did on the bike. Nishka Green and Simon Rawson came in from the first run not far behind him, along with John Kelly who managed to close the gap over the four laps (that's right - FOUR laps Adrian!) and came into transition first. Adrian pushed the second run and came across the line first with Simon overtaking John to take the silver medal.
All in all, a fabulous afternoon of racing that saw a whole bunch of first timers hit the course, and a whole bunch of new faces come and try their first multisport event with CCTRI.

This is a short video of an unofficial and unsanctioned trial
of the XC2 that we took on Sunday 19th July 2009.
Race location?
The XC Duathlon track is located at Federation Park, Warnervale. Entry will be off Railway Road and then a short drive through the park where you will park alongside the horse-riding enclosure. A short walk towards the school and the current roadworks will lead you to the marshalling area.
