Club Champs

Every month after club races you have probably heard about Club Champs, but just in case you aren’t actually sure what  it is we thought we’d drop you a line and let you know a bit more about it and how it all works. Hopefully all this will entice you to come up and represent the Central Coast either by racing or supporting.

The Tri NSW Club Championships is a race held up at Port Stephens on in a Saturday in May each year. The distances are 1km swim, 30km on the bike and 8km run, around double what we do every month at Summerland Point.

In 2009, Central Coast Triathlon & Multisport Club (under the previous club name of Mingara Tri Club), earned the award for Best Country Club and fifth in the state out of 31 clubs!

Our goal for 2010 is to get as many club members up to One Mile Beach and competing in CCTRI uniforms as possible, and as many CCTRI polo shirts along to the presentation evening after the race.

Hopefully by fielding the biggest team we can, we can retain our Best Country Club Trophy. But if not, we want to have this event as our 'end-of-season' away trip where we all go along and have fun as a club. After the race we will have our tent set up in the club area, and will head out as a group for dinner before attenting the presentation at Soldiers Point Bowling Club. The following morning, we hope to have a 'recovery breakfast barbeque' together before heading home again.

We will be looking at renting group accommodation so we can all stay in the one place, and will also look at hiring a bus or carpooling for those that don't want to take their own cars up.

Here's how it works:

You must be aged 15 or over to enter. Members from every club in NSW can enter for their club, and if you are one of the first 30 people to cross the line in your age and sex category you can earn points for your club. For example:

  • The first racer in the 25 – 29 females to cross the line will earn 30 points.

  • The second racer in the same category will earn 29 points

  • The third will earn 28 points

  • The thirtieth will still earn 1 point

(each club can only earn points for one racer in each category, so if you are the second person from the Central Coast to cross the line in a category you will not earn any points, but you will stop the 30th person from earning points for their club!)

Even if you just marshal or volunteer you can earn 1 or 2 points for the club – so if we get 10 people up there just to wave people through transition or whatever we can score a maximum of 10 points without breaking a sweat!

To be eligible to enter the 2010 Club Champs you MUST be a member of Tri NSW.

If you are not a member of Tri NSW, you are still welcome to come up and compete (or support) and show the rest of the clubs in NSW how much our club has grown, how many members we have and how we are going to do our damnedest to take home the trophy for Best Country Club again in 2010.
